Why
I choose to run against Charlie Brown
I
have been an involved and active citizen all my adult life. I had
faith that our elected representatives were doing their jobs and protecting
us. I knew that corporations with special interests hired lobbyists
to look after their interests. I believed that our representatives
were our "lobbyists", looking after our best interests.
However, this proved not to be the case. When our legislature gave
huge tax breaks to our largest corporation under cover of the reassessment,
I knew the system was broken. I went to Indianapolis to lobby on behalf
of the people for a 2% tax cap and for a tax break for all based on
the Lake County settlement with U S Steel. I was successful in doing
both and I learned a lot, I learned who was effective representing
us and who was not.
I choose to run because much more needs to be done. As an unelected
individual I was able to get the 2% tax cap passed. As an elected
representative of the 3rd District, I believe I can do much more to
improve the quality of life in Northwest Indiana. I believe I can
be effective in the state legislature because I was effective without
having been a member. As a member, I will be the lobbyist for the
people.
Thank You,
